In Nursery, the Launchpad activities focused on sound recognition, auditory discrimination and simple auditory memory games support children’s early listening and attention skills. Games where children listen carefully and hold short messages or instructions in their heads have contributed positively to communication and language development, helping to build strong foundations for both phonics and achieving a Good Level of Development (GLD). In Reception, auditory memory games have had a particularly positive impact on phonics development. These […]

At Eldwick Primary school we feel Launchpad for literacy has had a significant impact on our ability to identify early need effectively and address it in a much more specific way. It has enabled us to pin point gaps in early play skills, auditory memory and visual perception. Historically, we might have only looked at developing pre phonics skills to support our LA pupils, but now we are upskilled to be able to understand that a […]

From a nursery point of view at The Parks, we have focussed on building up the journey into blending across the academic year. A large percentage of children are able to blend confidently and are also able to hear initial sounds in words when playing a range of games with objects. An increased percentage of children are confident in rhyming, and almost all children are able to clap out 2 and 3 syllables independently. Having phonological […]

Launchpad for Literacy has had a positive impact on our phonics outcomes this year, particularly in the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check. We found that a number of children who had previously been on the borderline of passing were able to achieve a secure pass. The detailed assessment information enabled teachers to identify individual pupils’ auditory memory strengths and areas for development, allowing them to plan highly targeted next steps and tailor phonics teaching to meet […]

GLD – Launchpad to Literacy has provided our Reception staff with a clear, progressive framework that ensures children develop the essential foundations for reading and writing. The structured sequence enables us to identify and address gaps early, resulting in children entering Key Stage 1 with stronger communication, language and early literacy skills. We have seen increased confidence and independence in children as they progress through the programme when the children have been identified and the area […]

Over the course of this academic year, we successfully implemented Launchpad for Literacy as a targeted small-group intervention to address developmental gaps within the lowest 20% cohort across Nursery and Reception. By focusing rigorously on the auditory strand, we targeted key foundational skills, specifically developing auditory memory to support our phonics and reading outcomes. As a direct result of this structured intervention, a record number of children transitioned to the next stage “on track” in word […]

We are still fairly new to using Launchpad as we only bought in earlier this year. One area where Launchpad has had an impact, was for a group of target pupils who were not on track for GLD for Reading and writing. We used the Launchpad Toolkit to deliver some interventions/ add activities into continuous provision following the phonological awareness column and then we targeted these children during play. These 5 children did all achieve GLD. […]

Launchpad for Literacy is slowly weaving it’s way through our school and is being used more by staff throughout school and is supporting all staff to assess children’s skills, particularly SEND children and children who are not accessing formal phonics curriculum. We haven’t used it in collaboration with any schools at present. As a next step, we need to look at the training resources in more depth as a leadership team and target appropriate resources to […]
